Where to stay and what to do in Santorini?
Hi there, my friend and I are going to Santorini (our first stop)end of April. Can onyone suggest good budget priced accommodation? What is the best way of seeing the Island and what would you reccommend seeing and doing? We are going to be there for a few days before moving on to other Islands. We want to end up in Athens before some how making our way over to Italy. What "island hopping" route should we take? ( we plan to spend at least 2 weeks in Greece) Our plans as you can see are very fluid!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thankyou.

- Hi, hope your enjoy yourself`s , and this might be a handy link for you :- http://www.thebackpacker.net/travelhostels/greece_santorini/index.htm
- http://www.blacksandybeach.gr/ The above hotel is lovely, we stopped there for 2 weeks last September. Go on the sunset cruise of the island or go on the volcano tour. There are plenty of hostels in perissia if you want cheap accommodation, also there are plenty of cheap places to eat as well. http://www.santorini.net/home.html

- Well i am going back a fair few years when i did this. We flew to Athens bussed it to Perius the ferry port and got a ferry first to an island call Kythanos, then Santorini (I think, is was 1990 when i did this) then to Naxos, Mykanos (We didn't know it was a Gay island...loadsa fun though) and at every ferry port the Greeks would meet you with there accommodation, pictures and prices, obviously now it's in Euros as it was Drakmas then...Back then we managed to get three nights for the the two of us for on average £12, basic rooms but they all had en suite, they were new builds and a double bed with a fridge, essentially for the Amstels lol lol. We went for two weeks and had one holdal, and dare it say comando lol lol. Have the time of your life and please be safe!! The last link does accommodation from 25 euros per room per night. We stayed in youth hostel for on night in Athens....that was the worst experience of my life!!! It wasn't just us in the bed that night.......
- Hi-- Santorini is beautiful...my friend and I were there 2 weeks ago. If you don't need to spend a lot of time in your room I would recommend Hotel Margherita. The rooms are small, but the two of us stayed 3 nights for a grand total of 93 EUR. The hotel is located in Firostefani which is 5 minutes walking from Fira (the capital of Santorini). Fira offers many good restaurants and decent touristy shopping. For restaraunts I suggest Mama's and the Kotouki (sp?) Friendly Greek Tavern...both in Fira. The food is good, personnel speak good English, and the prices are unbeatable. For what to see: The volcano Nea Kameni is short boat ride away, and if you sign up for the excursion, they let you off the boat to swim in the volcanic hot springs. I would also recommend going to Oia (pronounced "Ia") to watch the sunset (they are famous for their sunsets). The island has many black sand beaches and a red sand beach as well. they have cheap bus service to and from these beaches daily from Fira (probably elsewhere too). Santorini was the only island that we visited, but I've heard good things about Naxos, Mykonos, and of course Rhodes. What I do know is that Aegean airways offers flights from Athens to Santorini for rountrip for roundabout 99 EUR. You can take the ferry from port of Athens (piraeus) to Santorini for 25-30 EUR one way, but it is an 8 hour ferry ride. Good luck!
- Santorini is lovely! Make sure to watch the sunset!! Also try to go to Paros and Naxos. Have a good time :)
- I spent the whole of last summer working in Santorini. The best areas to stay are the main town Thira/Fira, Kamari and Calderra. STAY CLEAR OF PERISSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perissa is a dump, but the accomodation there will be dirt cheap. If you want to eat well then oia is the place with the best restaurants. Santorini doesn't really represent Greece properly as its become very touristy. On your way to Italy you could see Patra, or Ioannina as they are both near to ports and they are really nice parts of Greece that will give you a real feel for the country.
- try nikos villas in oia it is the most gorgeous place the hotel is white and the doors are red whatever room you are in you walk out to a great pool overlooking the rest of the island it is the most spectalular place its not high priced and rent a scooter to get a great way around make sure you stop and watch the sunset at a restraunt to enjoy wat santorini is really about
- Since you travel in April there will not be any problem for accomodation, so if you like to take the chance, get there without booking anything from abroad. For sure there will be plenty of offers and you can choose the best (place and price). Other islands to see; Crete (2,5 hrs from Santorini), Naxos and Paros.
